Happy Holidays

Hello everyone and apologies for the long absence. I hope everyone's holiday season is going well and that everyone did well in the fall semester. I unfortunately did not do as well as i could do to some work related injuries but i vow to come back in the Winter and do excellent to help bring back up my GPA. Christmas was ok as far as i had little time to actually relax and enjoy my three days off. My wife and kids made out well over Christmas while i did alright. Now we are all preparing for the New Year and with it a lot of things that will be set in motion.

I was scheduled to graduate this Spring but do to some errors on my degree audit report i am being pushed back a year. I am in the process of getting it fixed and i hope to still be on schedule to graduate. I am sure i will get the same great support that i normally receive from the advisement staff. I am still proceeding though as if i am graduating and that entails me going for my GMAT exam. I will let you guys know how that goes as i know many of my fellow classmates want to pursue a masters degree. A word of advice, do not skip taking the GMAT, any Grad School program that does not need a GMAT is not a school or program to enroll in. I have had friends not take the GMAT and get into a Graduate program and they all said it was a waste of time and money.

The next major goal for next year is to achieve my CCNA and get a better job with it. Simultaneously my wife will being her search for a job since i am not getting any raises this year but i am grateful to have a job. Getting my CCNA will be a challenge because i will be technically studying 6 different things at once, My four classes, the GMAT and the CCNA. Hopefully i will be able to achieve all of these goals by the middle of next year, or at least that is the plan. If i am able to achieve my CCNA by June i will then work on my CCNA Security exam and hopefully achieve that by the end of the year. January looks promising as many companies are releasing their hiring freezes and hopefully i can cash in. Anyway see you guys next year.

Weekend Review

Hello everyone and welcome back. Hope everyone's weekend was great and that they accomplished everything that they needed to do. My weekend was hectic since Friday as i had a bunch of homework and household issues that i needed to tend to. I can honestly tell you that i do not know how i am functioning right now given the fact that i got very little sleep this weekend due to a combination of homework and letting my wife sleep in. The good thing about this past weekend was i got to spend a lot of time with my kids just the three of us. It is a rarity that i get to enjoy because of school and work but i can see the light at the end of the tunnel of my college career here at Berkeley College. I am scheduled to graduate in April and i am just counting down the days until the big graduation day. Of course my education will not stop there as i intend to pursue a Master's degree in my field and possibly a PhD down the road. I cannot believe that it has been two years since i not only entered Berkeley college but have been blogging as well. It only seems like yesterday that i received that phone call from Ms. Carol Covino, who is the head of the Berkeley Bloggers. It has been enjoyable to have taken part in something that Berkeley College was just implementing and i will have to determine if i will continue to Blog post-graduation.

That is all still a long way off and we are currently rushing toward the end of the fall semester. I cannot believe how time flies but it does and it seems like those two years went by in a blur. I am currently sitting in my Persuasive Communication class waiting for the class to begin in about 30 minutes. It is an interesting class to say the least as we have covered so far many different types of persuasion, everything from debates to movie reviews. Many may not think that a movie review is a form of persuasive communication but think about how many people refuse to see a movie because it got bad reviews? Many movie goers rely on the movie reviews to determine whether they will see a movie or not especially since the price of a movie ticket is between 10 and 11 dollars. In other news the director of my department gave us some news that GE sold their Security branch to United Technology. This is important to my company as we are a Security System provider and our monitoring and business software is support by GE Security. It is going to be interesting to see how this sale will effect us moving forward. Our director also told the department that we should be proactive in learning new IT trends and software and to stay as current in our knowledge as possible. This is extremely ironic given the fact that it is very difficult for us to find time to do that during work hours and even if we do there is a good chance it will be disturbed. There has also been times where i have tried and it has been looked down upon so i don't know what is the right thing to do. I figure now i can do it because if someone tries to punish me for it i can always say my director said i could, barring that it is not affecting any of my other tasks.

Well time seems to be crawling ever so slowly toward the beginning of class. I have no idea what will be in store for tonight but i am sure it will be interesting. I have my second exam on Thursday in abnormal psych and i am hoping to do a lot better than i did on my first exam which i was not fully prepared for. If you like psychology then you have to take abnormal psych with Professor Suchoviki. He is thorough and in depth and will give you all the information you can handle. This is actually my second psych course and i have to say over all i think the whole department is great so pick and choose who you like. Anyway i have to wrap it up, join me again next time.

Midseason Review

Hello and welcome back to the blog. I still need to come up with a better name for my blog, any way before getting down to business I and every Yankees fan in Berkeley would like to congratulate them on their World Series win. It will be an interesting off-season as the Yankees will look to fill holes needed to make a run at the 28th championship. Registration is now open for the Winter semester so register now and avoid any issues with Financial Aid and Student Accounts. We have now made through half of the Fall semester and most of us have already gone through our midterms. Lucky for me I do not have any midterms in any of my classes so that helps ease off any mid-semester stress.

I have register for the Winter and I now realize that the closer you are to graduation the harder it is to find classes. I am down to internships and electives and personally i do not feel like taking all my electives in the building but it is difficult to find any open online classes. My hope for the future is that after week 6 or 7 that online classes will be made available for all students. The other interesting thing i noticed is career fairs and professional business panels. All of these events take place in the daytime which means evening students have to take a full or half a day to attend these events. Personally i would like to see if some of these events can take place in the evening or on a Saturday. Most of the evening students have jobs but maybe looking for a new one and these events can be crucial to achieving that goal.

In other business, Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching and that also is the official beginning of the Holiday season. The time where we reflect on the year that has passed so quickly and plan the future. It is a time where we spend time with those that love and care for us and it is a time that we are to reflect on what we are thankful for. This has been a tough time for the economy and i know for one thing is i am thankful to have my job both at DGA and here blogging for Berkeley College. Think about what your plans are for next semester and remember to always aim high.

New Semester-Count Down Begins

Hey everyone and welcome back to the blog. We are entering week 3 at Berkeley and so far so good. Before i continue a reminder to all new and current students, registration for the Winter begins week 4 so start looking at what you want to take. Another announcement is that classes are cancelled on Monday in observance of Columbus day so enjoy the day off. This semester is a big semester for me as i am counting down the days until graduation. I am scheduled to graduate in the beginning of next year and i cannot weight. If i followed the standard 4 year plan i should have graduated in 2007 but better late than never. I am now faced with the issue of what i am going to do after i graduate with my bachelors? My ultimate goal is to go for my Masters in Information Systems Management. My ideal school would be NYU and i know that it is going to take a lot of work to get into it. Even if i have the GMAT score a lot of these Master programs want some sort of company sponsorship for the program and my job does not have any tuition reimbursement. I am hoping to not only speak with my boss about the possibility of getting some assistance but i am also prepared to speak to the Vice President himself. It is a good thing that i am taking Persuasive Communications this semester.

There are a lot of factors that are going to make this semester as difficult as last semester. The biggest obstacle i face is what i will do with my knee. As you can recall my late night blog last week about awaiting results for an MRI i took, well i got them last Monday. I have tears on both of my meniscus's and a Grade 2 sprain of my MCL. The MCL can be rectified through therapy and strengthening of the knee. The meniscus's are a different stories that has two paths that i can take. One road will be not doing any surgery, rehab the knee to strengthen it and live with it torn. The issue is with that is that it will hinder me from any athletic endeavors such as playing baseball or any sports. It will also make it more difficult to lose the weight because i cannot do any hard exercise. The more important aspect is that i have two kids and they are going to play some sort of sports and i want to be able to help them practice. The other road i can take is by having surgery on the knee to repair the damage in the knee which will allow me after a few months of rehab to return to normal activities. I am leaning toward surgery which will have me out of work and school for approximately 2 weeks. I will be meeting with my orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday to discuss options that i may not know about.

As i begin my count down to graduation i look back at the two years i have spent at Berkeley College. I can recall some students having issues, that eventually got resolved and i am glad i did not really have any issues. All my encounters with the staff and faculty at Berkeley have been great. It has to be the second best school i have been to with my first going to Penn State where i spent a year at. I can honestly say that Berkeley has prepared me for what i need to do when i graduate in a couple of months. If i could offer some suggestions i would like to see the Information Systems program expanded a bit. I would like to see more computer classes other than Office and Web Design as being the only mandatory classes that an ISM major needs to take. Classes such as Server, A+, and maybe an intro to Cisco would help round out the ISM student. Working in the IT department for almost 3 years i have seen how important it is to understand these things as it will help when it comes time for us to take positions of management in an IT department. Anyway i hope you enjoyed tonight's blog and i hope to see you guys later on this week.

Fall is in the Air

Hello everyone i am back from my little break. I apologize for the long break but i had to handle a lot of stuff in my personal life and i was beginning to fall behind in classes. Now things have calmed down a bit and i am able to get back to blogging and other activities. It is currently 1 in the morning Sunday and i cannot sleep so i decided that i will blog a bit to see if i can tire myself out. This semester is starting to look that it will be just as hectic as last semester. I have currently have classes in the building on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The big issue with that is i now live in New Jersey so it is a little longer to get home and costly also as i need to take a cab from the train. Hopefully when i go for my retake of my license on Thursday i will pass and be able to finally get a car and just drive from the train myself. I also have to contend with the possibility that i may need surgery on my left knee. About two Friday's ago i fell and landed wrong in the stairwell of my job. Now if you can recall awhile ago i said my company bought a building and we were preparing to move in, well on September 8th we moved in. So the stairwell was not done so when i fell i landed on my feet but i twisted my knee on the uneven concrete. I will find out on Monday if i have a tear or not.

The biggest thing is that i am preparing for graduation. I have finally handed in my transcript so i will be able to get those transfer credits but the problem with being so close to graduation is that i am running out of classes to take. This semester alone i am taking two elective classes and as i get closer to the big day i will be taking more and more electives. I want to take this time to thank Primetime which is now the Dept. of Continuing Education, for all their help getting me the classes i needed for this semester. My only issue that i do have is that there is not enough room in the Department of Continuing Education to fit everyone that needs to see Advisement, Student Accounts and Financial Aid. The reason why spacing is an issue is because since most Continuing Ed students have jobs they tend to bottleneck and go to the department between 5 and 8 in the evening. Sometimes there is a 30-60 minute wait to see some one. What also makes it difficult is that they reserve days for new students which furthers limit the time continuing students have to get things settled. I personally believe that if we had the whole floor instead of one room it would allow for more students to be seen since you can now fit more advisers, financial aid personnel and student account personnel. It will also allow the department to be divided in half so that way one wing can handle new students and the other wing can handle continuing students. Anyway that is all for now i will catch you guys later on in the week.

Mid-Spring

Hello Everyone and welcome back. A lot has happened since i last wrote, between my birthday and mothers day it has just been one thing after another. To top it all off i had some issues with the school but that was resolved to my satisfaction but more on that later. Some administrative stuff, registration for the Summer semester is now going on so if you have not registered please do so. For those that have registered make sure you clear before the end of the spring semester to avoid any extra headaches.

Midterms were last week and boy did i have some tough ones. Finance had to be the hardest midterm i have taken to date in all the exams i have taken at Berkeley college. I think what made it so difficult is because many of us were not properly prepared for the exam. It really wasn't completely the professors fault as some of the students in the class just either cant remember basic accounting or basic math. As an example he uses PowerPoint to teach the class and we got stuck on 1 slide for almost 45 minutes as he had to keep repeating himself to the same group of students. I understand you want everyone to get what you are teaching but there has to be a point where you tell those students see me after class and not hold up the other 20+ students who do get it. I will be getting the results to that exam today so lets see how that goes.

Math seems to be the easiest since we got a take home exam for math. He is a good professor but the same thing that happens Tuesday in finance happens on Wednesday in Math. A lot of the question evolve around basic college algebra which most of these people either cant remember or never took. I don't know if college algebra is a pre-requisite for the class but if it isnt it should be. The other question i have for the person that creates the Primetime schedule, why do you have essentially two math classes back to back? That is very difficult for some students and is one of the biggest complaints i get from my fellow students.

Computers seem to be going smoothly although he has been unable to get the simulation software he needs installed on the computers at Berkeley. The techs blamed it on the executable file not running properly. Despite the set back we are proceeding through the chapters at a decent pace. I personally do not think we will get through the entire book in the 12 weeks we have but who knows. The online class i am in has been going surprisingly well. It is going to well that i made the majority of my classes next semester online. This will provide me the ability to spend time with my kids, work out with my wife and focus on my business. I am looking forward to next semester as there are some interesting management classes that i am taking.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. My lovely Rebecca is turning two on Saturday and i cannot believe how much time has flown by. I can still remember waiting in the hospital for her arrival in this world. She has become so smart and is picking up phrases and words quicker than i would have ever thought a child her age can do. She continues to be a loving sister to Jose and an excellent daughter to me and my wife. So i want to wish her a very Happy 2nd Birthday!

Anniversary and Week 3

Hello everyone and welcome back. I know it has been awhile since the last post and i apologize but i think i will be more regular now that i have figured out my schedule for doing work. Hopefully every ones spring semester is going well and that you are ready to register for the summer semester which i believe registration begins next week but i will verify in a later post. Today's main topics are anniversary and what motivates us.

This past weekend was my 2 year wedding anniversary. It has not been at all the best two years from a financial point of view but the good thing is i think it is building character in our marriage. A lot of stuff has gone on over the past two years including the birth of both my children, starting Berkeley College and a whole bunch of boring stuff that i will not mention. Through it all i did not have a relapse of a bipolar episode or did i once think this was not going to last. See i have always been a pessimist so the only think i keep telling myself is the prize at the end will be worth it. That's what has kept me going through my marriage and through going to school full time. Any Primetime student will tell you that it is physically taxing to work full time and go to school full time. It is even more taxing physically, mentally and emotionally when you are a parent. Having to balance all these jobs is very difficult in it of itself. Yet my motivation are the two smiles i get when i come home from my children. They keep me energized and wanting to finish what i have started.

When you have children your whole world changes. Your focus changes and that anything you do is for your children solely. As i told my wife our marriage can end at anytime but the one constant is our children and all we do will be for them and them only. Hearing daddy from Rebecca and dada from Jose keeps me going more than any energy drink out there and that is how i get through it. So any students out there whether your primtime, daytime or online and you are feeling a little tired sit back and realize what is your motivation? When you need an energy boost just remember why you are doing, what you are doing? If you cannot answer that question then you may want to look to see what is your motivations.

Week 3 is upon us and that means we are a quarter of the way through and approaching midterm week. So far a lot of information has been thrown at us and it is time to start dissecting and putting stuff together in order to better prepare ourselves for the midterm. So far I have learned a lot about Information Systems and Finance. Finance appears to be another math class that uses a lot of ratios and formulas that i hope that the professor will give us for the exam. Information Systems appears to be packed with a lot of information and hopefully I will be able to dissect it enough in order to do a term project on it. This is my first semester that i have two group projects. One group project is in Information Systems and the other is in Finance.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. As part of our anniversary we took Rebecca to the Bronx zoo on Saturday. She loved it especially the monkeys as that is her favorite animal. She loved it so much she kept my mother in law up by making animal noises in her sleep. Jose is not in a good mood as his two top teeth are trying to break through. I am hoping they come through with in the next couple of days so that he can be back to being a happy boy. Anyway that is all for now stay tuned to next time when i update Professor Montlacks book information and his appearances.

New Semester, New Ideas

Hello everyone. Finals week has gone and passed and i did ok. Unfortunately i suffered my first C+ but it didn't drop my GPA to much. We are now in the Spring semester and I am looking forward to all the classes that I am taking this semester. I am taking 4 classes, three at a building and one online. It is my first online class so anyone that has taken online classes i would love to hear feedback such as what are good professors to take and not to. On a side note i want to shout out a professor that is having some big things coming this month. Awhile back you may remember i interviewed a professor named Michael Montlack. He is an English professor that teaches Oral Communication among other English classes. Well this month his new book My Diva : 65 Gay Men on the Women Who Inspire Them has been released. You can order your copy from Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. He has two public appearances promoting the book one of them is April 27th at the Barnes and Noble located at 2289 Broadway, 82nd & Broadway. There will also be a Big Diva event on May 13th. There is also a possibility for an event at Berkeley College so pay attention to the posters around the campus and come out to support our professor.

This is the first week of classes for the Spring semester and i have gone through 3 out of 4. The interesting thing about my schedule is that i have Finance and Finite Mathematics back to back. The reason why it is interesting is both classes are math classes. What makes it more interesting is there were only two Finance classes for night students, one on Tuesday and the other on Thursday, sandwiching the Finite mathematics class. Personally i think that is too much math in to little of time frame. The last class i have taken so far is Management Information Systems. I got the textbook for that class yesterday and after reading the table of contents it appears to be a great class. I think a lot of the chapters will apply to what i am experiencing right now with the move to the new building. One of the chapters is on telecommunications and networks and deciding what to use. This is key as my task so far in the new building is to punch down phone wire. Obviously decisions were made to use certain types of phone blocks, what type of cable to use, etc. I am hoping that this class will give me a little more of an inside view into a managers mind as i hopefully will be in that position on day.

The class that still remains is my network management course. I bought the textbook and started looking at what it has in store. I actually brought it into work to show my server administrator and he turned to me and said, "are you trying to take me job?" I said, "no but someone has to know what is going on in the new building when it comes to servers," and he agreed. My hope is that this class will prepare me to be a good server administrator, especially when we move into the building.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. Well Rebecca is getting ever so close to her second birthday. Jose continues to grow and is crawling all over the place. One day me and my wife were sitting watching TV and Jose was in the kitchen playing with the soda bottles. No more than 2 or 3 minutes later it went quiet and me and my wife looked at each other knowing that silence and kids don't mean something good. So i look in the kitchen and he is no where to be found so i go hunting for Jose. I found him all the way in our bedroom! All me and my wife could do was laugh. Well that is all for now i will see you guys next time.

The End is Near

-March 11th-

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog. A reminder once again that registration for the Spring is still going on and to clear as soon as possible. Time is running out and you don’t want to get stuck with classes you do not want or need. I personally have to clear and I intend to do that on Saturday so I will let you know how that goes.

The end of the semester is quickly approaching as students all around Berkeley are gearing up for final exams. It is going to be difficult for me as I have a lot of personal and family events that are coming up that is going to sap my strength, hopefully with proper time management I will be able to handle it all. As we begin the wind down I handed in my final 8 page paper today in Multimedia Business Presentations. The final step is to take that paper and turn it into a PowerPoint presentation that is due next week. If I get an A on the paper and the presentation that should net me an A for the class since I got nothing less than an A- on any assignment. I am still waiting to find out what I got on my midterm in Taxation but I guess that may have to wait until Friday. I still have to do homework for chapters 5 & 6 that is due next Friday, week 11.

In International Business I saw I got 29 out of 30 on my paper which makes me feel great since I worked hard on that paper. If I am able to get an 85 or better on the final I think I can come away with a B or a B+ for the semester which I am happy to take. Microeconomics I did not go to yesterday because I was physically exhausted from the hectic weekend and I also had to get up early Tuesday morning. I went to a BNI meeting at 7 am in order to promote the business that my partner and I are forming. BNI is a professional networking group that allows only one of each particular field into a chapter. For example in one chapter there can only be one tax lawyer, one graphic designer so on and so forth. This is extremely helpful in the fact that any referrals would go to you and only to you. Despite missing the class I did find out that she did move up the final to week 11 so we don’t have to show up week 12 and also take away one class to study for during week 12. I got a break out of Taxation because I found out from a classmate that the final will only be on one chapter and that is chapter 6. That makes it easier to study for and prepare for so I am hoping to knock the final out of the park.

It is now time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. Rebecca continues to surprise us with her grasp of the English language. The other day my wife and mother in law were taking Jose and Rebecca for a walk. Rebecca was already in the carriage when she saw that her brother was coming along. She turns to my mother in law and says “he’s coming to?” My mother in law replied “yep” and Rebecca goes “nnooooo.” She did not want her brother to come along and seemed to act like it was her time only with mommy and grandma. Another thing she did was on Sunday morning she woke up and saw her brother sleeping upstairs. She asks my mother in law if Jose slept there last night and when she was told yes she said, “oh” and seemed annoyed. That night he stayed upstairs again but this time Rebecca saw him and asked if he was spending the night. My mother in law said,”yes” and Rebecca gave it her ok for good measure. Makes me wonder who the boss really is upstairs? Anyway that is it for now I will see you guys next time, hopefully I will be able to post all of these back blogs this weekend.

Who watches the Watchmen?

-March 8th-

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Blog. I am still trying to find a nickname for this blog but I need some suggestions so anyone out there feel free to leave me a message. A couple of administrative announcements, reminder that registration for the spring is winding down so if you haven’t registered yet please do so as soon as possible. I would also like to welcome Lyndsay to the blogger group for Berkeley College, I am sure she will be a great read so if you haven’t checked out her blog, what are you waiting for.

This weekend was a very hectic one and it started Friday with my midterm in Federal Taxation. I studied the best I could but I don’t know if I did so well. It did not help that I did not know the format of the test which would have helped in studying. A lot of people don’t understand how knowing the format can help, it does. For example if you know that the whole exam is going to be True and False like my International Business final, you will study more facts and take notes and you may not pay too much attention to formulas. If you know the exam is going to be multiple choice, you can cut out area that you know enough about because you can always guess. Another example is if you know there are going to be short answer or short problems you will make sure you know formulas and how and when to apply them. This just goes to show you that the format of the exam is just as important as knowing what will be on it.

After the exam on Friday I went to see Watchmen: the Movie. I went to see it with my dad and my coworker Mark. Before I get into my critique of the movie I must let people know that if you have not read the graphic novel or are not into comics may not enjoy this movie. My dad never read the comic but he is a big kid at heart and still loves comics so he enjoyed it. I did read the novel before going to see the movie and I was pleased that they stuck to the graphic novel as close as they could. There were a few minor changes but nothing that seriously changed the meaning or purpose of the movie. If you can see past the comical costumes you will hear dialogue that is not only deep but inspirational. There are no big name actors or actresses in the movie and yet they all played their roles well. Over all I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD because they cut out about 30 minutes of film and I need to see how that fits in and if they followed the book in those scenes. Overall I did enjoy the movie and it was just great to go out by myself without the misses.

That last statement would be short lived as the next night I was out again with the misses going to my reunion. I went to the Martin van Buren Leaders Soft Reunion at Dave and Busters out in Long Island. That was quite a hike when you consider I live in Queens and I have no car. So I and my wife made the hour trip out there only to be there for about an hour and then left. It was very poorly planned and organized and the two hosts showed up late. It was so packed my wife and I couldn’t even get a bite to eat, we had to wait until we got back into the city. All in all it was just good spending time with the wife since it is rare that we go out due to school and money. The focus now turns to my two 8 page papers that are due on Monday and Wednesday. Lucky for me I have done all the research and I just have to put it all on paper. Wish me luck.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. As stated earlier Jose is beginning to learn how to walk. He is so cute as he tries to stand up on his own. Meanwhile his crawling is getting better and he is becoming more mobile. This leads to more restful sleep and more naps throughout the day, much to the happiness of his mother. Rebecca continues to play the part of big sister and is learning more and more phrases each day. She can now count up to thirteen although she omits number 12 but at least she is learning. Anyway that is all for now and I will see you next time.

Marching into March

-The next few post may seem a bit weird because i hand wrote them since i had no time to upload. Enjoy! This one is dated March 4th-

Hello everyone and welcome back. Just a few administrative items, registration for the spring is still going on if you have not done so please register. Tax season is upon us the sooner you file the sooner you can fill out your FAFSA and NYHESC Tap form. This will also allow you to clear earlier instead of waiting for the last minute.

We have finally reached the last 4 weeks of the winter semester here at Berkeley College. I have to say by far this is the hardest semester and busiest semester I have had here at Berkeley. It is so crazy that a 2 credit class is giving me an 8-10page paper due in about a week. On top of that I need to change that paper into a PowerPoint presentation that I must do before my classmates as my final presentation. So far I am batting an A in that class and I hope that my final presentation keeps up the pace. In my taxation class I have my midterm this week in week in week 9, talk about late. The only upside to it all is that we only need to study for one chapter when it comes time for the final so I am cool with that.
In International Business I also have an 8-10 page paper due next week and I will also have to lead a small discussion on the paper the week after. Then a week after that is our final which will be 50 true or false questions which does not leave much room for error. I also have taken my second essay test in Microeconomics. It is funny because it was based on two chapters but both questions came from only one. This is one of the reasons studying is so frustrating. You think you covered everything then you get the test and half of the test you thought not to study is on it. Personally I don’t know how the student body has not united as one and cause a raucous every time a professor does that.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. Well in his eagerness to catch his sister Jose has mastered the art of the baby walker. He is a virtual speed demon that can change direction and speed in an instant. I still manage to not get ran over and that is a goal that I intend on keeping. His sister on the other hand has found some diabolical ways to harass her brother while he is in it, such as pushing him from behind. Other than that she continues to be a very loving and caring big sister to her brother as she grows and learns what her responsibilities are. That is all for now stay tuned for reviews on Watchman the movie, a new book by an familiar professor and many other cool events as we wind down the winter semester.

Will you be my Valentine?

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog. I really need to think of a nickname for my blog so I don't keep referring to it as the blog. Anyway a reminder that registration is still going on so if you have not registered hurry up. We are seven weeks into the Winter semester so if you have not gone to see financial aid or settle your account time is running out. I personally have to go see financial aid this week as i will be filing my income taxes this week. I am hoping that there will not be much of a line when i go.

I got my grades for my two midterms that i took and got an 80 and 85 on the exams. I am pleased with those grades given that this semester has been a very hectic one and I really have not had much time to myself. This semester has been hectic between birthdays and getting my business off the ground. So far my business partner and i are slowly but surely getting clientele and we have decided what our final prices will be for web designing. I am hoping this second half slows down a bit in order for me to catch up with a lot of the work that needs to be done. The beginning of the Spring semester is going to be equally as fast past between my anniversary and my birthday.

The Spring semester is a semester i am looking forward to a lot. Academically all the classes i am taking are for my major. I am really interested in the Network Management course as it will help me understand the ins and outs of Windows Server. Personally there will be a lot of family activities during the Spring semester such as my anniversary, birthday, daughters birthday and hopefully the forming of an LLC. I really hope time just frees up for me in order for me to get everything i need to do will get done.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. My son appears to be a vegetarian. He gobbles up fruits and vegetables like there is a famine. Yet when we try to feed him meat he makes a face but reluctantly eats it. It is a completely different from my daughter who practically ate anything we put in front of her. My daughter is learning new phrases on a daily basis and now when she says bye she also says have fun. I think it is the cutest thing when a 21 month old tells you to have fun. Anyway that is it for now and i will see you in the future. If anyone can come up with a nickname for my blog let me know.

Midterm Week

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of my blog. Just as a reminder registration for the spring semester is continuing. If you have not already registered then do so soon in order to allow the maximum time to take care of all financial obligations. This week the college is preparing for midterms and also a three day weekend. Midterm week is a good indication of how well you’re doing in the class as well as allow you see how much you have learned. So far I have learned a lot about International Business, Microeconomics, Multimedia presentation and taxation.

International business is pretty much self explanatory and most of the information is common knowledge. A lot of International business actually shows up in my Microeconomics class since Microeconomics is the study of how individuals and firms use scarce resources. One of the major components of International business is trade and Microeconomics focuses on competitive advantage. I have taken Microeconomics before so a lot of the class is refresher for me. We have had already one presentation in multimedia presentations and it went well. The cool thing about it is I think I possibly may have gotten a few more tech support clients. Taxation is moving very slowly as we have only done two chapters in 6 weeks. I did spend a lot on the book but even if we don’t cover what we need to cover at least I have the book to help me do taxes in the future.

I have a lot of projects on my side to get my business off the ground. By the end of this week my website will be up and I will be ordering my next round of business cards with the website and company name on it. I am hoping that my friend Abede will be able to get me my logo by the middle of this week but if not I will put a simple one up for now. I have started to write my business plan and other items that I need to put a focus on the business and something to show to possible investors. I and my partner’s major goal are to be an LLC by the half way point of the year. I was speaking to a lawyer and it is going to cost me and my partner $2200 to get everything done. I am hoping a combination of tax return and the possible stimulus check to help.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. My daughter is a big girl as she has learned to use the bathroom. She hasn’t gotten the whole picture because she has yet to do number 2 in the toilet but she is ahead of the game. She used to tell us after she used the bathroom but now she tells us before hand and waits until she is on the toilet before going. She also continues to learn different phrases and tries her hardest to be the best biggest sister. Jose has entered the brat phrase and I sort of blame myself. During my daughters first year I was always home and I was able to discipline and nip certain bad behaviors before they became a problem. Unfortunately I am not home enough and therefore could not be around to discipline so my son has some bad habits. I have promised myself that on the days I am home I will try to be the bad guy and hopefully that will work as well as my wife will try to carry it out throughout the week. Thanks a lot and I will see you in the middle of the midterm week and I wish everyone a good luck.

A Super Comically Rocking Week

Hello everyone and welcome to February and supposedly one of the coldest months yet we may hit 50 today. I will state it again we bipolar patients have nothing against mother natures confusion. A reminder the registration for the spring semester has begun so if you have not registered do so promptly or else face having crappy classes. Another reminder that if you have not filed your taxes do so quickly in order to be able to fill out your FAFSA form for the 2009-2010 school year. This upcoming midterm week has nothing on the week i just had so we will have a short recap of the first week of February.

It started actually with the end of January when my niece Olivia was born last Friday at 7lbs and 20 inches in length. Then that night my coworker Josh Glantz proposed to his girlfriend of 2 years Jennifer Hacker, she said yes! So congratulations to my brother on the birth of his daughter and congrats to Josh & Jenn. Sunday as most of the country knew was Superbowl Sunday. The Pittsburgh Steelers won a nail biter in what was one of the most exciting 4th quarters in a Superbowl. It was a historic victory in which Pittsburgh won there 6th title as a franchise and that is the most in the NFL for a franchise.

Monday through Wednesday was pretty pedestrian and on Tuesday i had a small remembrance for my grandmother who would have been 86. Thursday was the best day this week as I went to a rock concert, not just any rock band but Slipknot. The concert had Slipknot headlining with New York's own Coheed and Cambria and Florida's Trivium. The first two bands did pretty well but Slipknot as they should practically demolished the show. 98% of Madison Square Garden stood for their hour and a half set that included the only display of pyrotechnics in the whole show. They played all the favorites blister, people=s**t, duality, dead memories, psychosocial and many, many more. They had 2 percussion kits and a drum set and each one did something different. One percussion kits went up on hydraulics and spun around in circles. The other percussion kit bucked around like a percussionist stuck on a bull. The ultimate thing was the drum kit which was on this hydraulic base and what it did was raise the kit up and turned it so that the kit and the drummer were horizontal to the floor. The sick part of it all is the drummer kept playing the whole time this was going on. Its a good thing they did it at the end or else i would have left because that was one of the most awesome sights of the whole concert. Anyone that could not be at the concert i am telling you that when they come back to NYC you should do whatever to see them. I would like to hear from any other Berkeley students that might have gone so post replies.

Yesterday i had scheduled the day off to recover and it just so happened that the New York Comic Convention is this weekend. So i decided to go and support my friend Abede Lovelace and his comic City of Walls. If you want to learn more about it check out www.cityofwalls.com. If you have not been to the Comic Con and you love comics of video games this is the event for you. Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Rockstar Games, EA and Square Enix are just some of the exhibitors there at the Con. Tons of comic books every where, and lots of people in costume. I saw Chewbacca, Batman, Hellboy, powerpuff girls and many many more. It was completely insane. If you can get there today or tomorrow i would strongly suggest you do. I do plan a repeat visit next year. That was basically my week in review and it was one of the most fun and awesome weeks in a very long time.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. Jose continues to grow and we believe he is teething again but no new teeth yet. I feel sorry for him and i just wish that the teeth would come already to end his suffering. Rebecca continues to amaze and grow and astound everyone. She learned a few new phrases like funny boy, i can do it and i know. She also is trying to teach her brother sign language. Yes ladies and gentlemen a 2 year old is teaching basic sign language to my son. She was helping feed him and when she asked more Jose she also signed the sign for more. She continues to be a big sister to her brother and a continual helper for mommy and daddy. Wait until the next blog when i tell you guys what else she has done. Well hope everyone has a great weekend and i will see you in the future.

Registration and Quarter Mark

Hello everyone and welcome back. I apologize but between my kids and i we have been fighting the flu for the most part of this month. So i have been trying to play catch up with school work and homework. Just a little public service announcement but registration for the Spring semester has begun. If you have not done so already the classes and schedules have been posted on Blackboard so take a look. As many students know that the later you wait the harder it is to get classes you need and want to take. You can either email your request or fill out a form and drop it off at Advisement.

On to other topics of discussion and the one i want to focus on tonight is the BerkAlert system that Berkeley has. BerkAlert is a system that sends out emails and phone calls to Berkeley College students warning of any school delays or closings. I personally think it is a great system but there are some draw backs to the system that i wonder if they could be fixed. The first and foremost is that i got two phone calls and emails for the Bergen County and Westchester County campuses. I do not attend either one so why did i get a phone call and email. They purposely ask you what is your main campus but then when the system is activated it calls and emails everyone under the sun. The second thing is that i am a Primetime student and the alerts were for delayed openings. Delayed openings do not affect Primetime students because we don't go to class until the evening. The only message we should receive is if the campus is closed or that after a certain time classes have been cancelled due to the whether. The only reason why these two issues are a problem is people got these phone calls starting around 6 a.m. going forward. I think it would put less strain on the system if there was any way to customize it in that manner.

Classes so far have gone by pretty quickly. I cannot believe that a quarter of the semester has already gone by. I have taken my first quiz in Microeconomics and did my first presentation in Multimedia business presentations today. I am still trying to play catch up with Federal Taxation but i am slowly but surely getting there. On a more personal note i am working on laying the foundation for my business. The major thing i need is to speak to a lawyer that does these things in order to have some questions answered about forming different types of businesses. I am leaning to creating an LLC as it has the limited liabilities of a corporation without the double taxation. That way all my personal stuff and things that belong to my wife and kids cannot be touched in the event of a lawsuit.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. Jose turned 6 months this month and is creeping up to his sister in height and weight. He is currently 15lbs and 26 inches in length. My daughter is currently about 22lbs and around 30 inches in height. She is such the big sister as she continues to take care of her brother in her own special little way. His face always lights up when he sees his older sister and i hope the bond will continue as they grow. On other news both of them will have some cousins to play with shortly. My step-brother Roberts girlfriend is due any day, his brothers girlfriend is due in June and i found out last week that my sister is pregnant and due in August. All i can say is i better get some more money to help out all my nieces and nephews. Anyway that is all for now and i will see you guys in the future.

Happy New Year

Hello everyone and welcome back. The holidays are finally over and now it is time to focus on the new year both personally and academically. The Winter semester begins tomorrow and so does my personal quest to get straight A's. Last semester I finally achieved that goal and want to continue that trend, in order to not have to pay back one of my Berkeley Loans. This semester i am taking Microeconomics, International Business, Federal Taxation 2 and a computer course that u can never remember the name. The cool thing is two of my classmates from last semester will be in 2 of my classes so i am looking forward to seeing a familiar face.

This year is going to mark a busy year for me and my family. I intend to hopefully get my business off my the ground, i have two milestone birthdays to plan for among other things. I am actually hoping to take my first real vacation in 3 years and we are trying to decide whether to go to New Mexico or stay closer to the eastern seaboard. There is a lot of resolutions i am hoping to keep through out the year and one of them is to blog more often. I have figured out that if i cant sit and type one out i can type one out in Microsoft on my Pocket PC and then post it when i get home. I may also bring my laptop on occasion to school. I have no final idea yet but my definite goal is to get the mandatory 8 postings in a month. Once i achieve that i will expand to more months through out the Winter.

There are certain projects that i was hoping to take on such as Meet the Staff and word on the street. That may be cut down to maybe one posting a month instead of two or three due to time constraints. This year is going to be tough economically on everyone and our new president will have his hands full when he gets sworn in 16 days. How fitting is it that the first black president will be sworn in the day after Martin Luther King Jr. Day, could this be a good omen only time will tell. So here's to the New Year and all the interesting stories and events that are going to come this year.

Now it is time for the Rebecca and Jose corner. Poor, poor Jose has been in a lot of pain for the past two weeks as his teeth are coming in. Two of them have broken through the skin and i am hoping that is all for now as he needs a break. Rebecca has continued to be comic relief for the family as she has done some silly things during my two weeks off of school. One of the funniest things is her brother was upstairs at his grandmothers and then was brought downstairs. Now my daughter saw him go downstairs but must have forgotten because she went by the playpen to look for him. Then she began a thorough search for her brother, looking under the playpen, in the turtle tank, bathroom and under the sofa looking for her brother. Now that was a determined sister to find her brother. Anyway that is all for now see you in the middle of the week.
